After describing most of the scientific solutions that can be provided for
the issue of water shortage on the regional and global scales, we come to
another important side of the issue which is politics. As everyone knows,
water has become a scarce resource in many parts of the world.
Unfortunately, some nations take advantage of this fact; and use water as a
political weapon. One solution for this problem is to place political
pressure over these nations. The UN has to become more involved in solving
this problem by passing more effective resolutions that emphasize the
necessity of equally sharing water amongst nations. Nations that refuse to
do so must be placed under sanctions by the UN.
Another important action that should
be taken by the UN is to put all nations that use water as a political
weapon or refuse to share it equally under the list of terrorist nations.
When nations refuse to share water equally, wars might occur, and when wars
occur, thousands of people are terrorized. For this reason, the
international community has to strongly combat all nations that deny others
their right share to water. Moreover, the international community has to
concentrate on a more just distribution of water. What is meant here. If the
UN continues to ignore the issue of water disputes and water shortages in
different countries, this problem will escalate from a small or a regional
problem into a global problem. When that happens, it would be very possible
for our generation or the next generation to witness a third world war. |
